Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about GMAC consultations and the VA claims process.

Questions

Is GMAC part of the VA?

No. GMAC is not the VA and is not affiliated with the VA.

Do you file my claim for me?

No. Veterans review, approve, sign, and submit their own documents.

Can you guarantee a rating?

No. We do not guarantee service connection, a rating, an effective date, or any other VA outcome.

What happens in a consultation?

A one-on-one video call, from a laptop, desktop or tablet, about where you are with your claim: your conditions, your evidence, the C&P exam or your decision letter, and what to do next. Send a consultation request and a GMAC team member will contact you to schedule it.

Does sending a consultation request book an appointment?

No. A request is not an appointment. A GMAC team member contacts you to schedule the consultation.

Is GMAC VA-accredited?

No. GMAC is not a VA-accredited attorney, claims agent or representative, and does not represent anyone before the VA.

Does applying for VA benefits cost money?

No. Applying is free. You can file on your own through VA.gov, and accredited Veterans Service Organization (VSO) representatives help at no charge.

What does the request form ask for?

Your name, email and phone number, and a few sentences on what you would like help with. You can also say how you prefer to be contacted, who referred you and how you heard about GMAC. The form takes no documents. Please leave out your Social Security number, VA file or claim number, bank or card details and medical records.

No outcome is guaranteed. The VA alone decides every claim. A claim or review may not change your rating, and in some cases the VA can lower a rating. It must tell you first and give you time to respond.
